The 45′ steel ketch “Oihonna” is pulling att her moorings.
She’s just back from 10 000 miles around the northern Atlantic in 2025 and 2026 crewed by 25 enthusiastic youngsters.
In total she has over 50 000 miles under her steel reinforced keel since her launch in 2000 after ten years when Mats&Birgitta built the wooden interior and outfitted her with two Seldén manual furling main and mizzen masts with roller furling jib and genoa. All sails made of strong and durable Hydranet cloth.
During seven years they cruised the Nordic countries, the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Scotland and the Caribbean and then we took over in 2000.
We have sailed her in the Baltic, Norway and Scotland. Refurbished and renewed her inventory, hull, electronics, exchanged the teak deck for 6 mm cork, added a new jib, a new light wind genoa, a stay sail and a spinnaker, one Walker bay and one hypalon dinghy with a 4 HP Yamaha.
Her hull is steel planks (4 mm over the water line, 8 mm under) double welded by the lighthouse keeper at Lurö in lake Vänern
She’s built on Colin Archers original frame plans for r/s 14 “Stavanger” and sails beautifully even in light winds.
She’s a strong boat and the rig is oversized stainless cables. Forestay and backstays exchanged 2020 and the rest routinely inspected.
She has a xx L freezer and a xx l two story fridge autonomusly powered by four 100W solar panels through a 800 Ah battery bank. (Axiom plotter, AIS, VHF and engine is powered by three 110 W solar cells through an independent 240 Ah bank)
Under power the batteries are charged by two generators and a wind/ towing generator.
Her power plant is a sturdy straight six cylinder Nissan Crysler SD33 truck-diesel with no frills. Belt driven hydraulic pump powers a 8 kW bow thruster and 2 ton bollard pull capstan and winch.
A complete spare Nissan Crysler SD33 is in storage and all essential spare parts are stored on board.
1000 litres bunker oil and 750 litres of water in two tanks will take her across the Atlantic with seven ppl on board.
She’s insulated and has water heating all around from the engine, a Reflex diesel stove or shore power. We have lived onboard during a Swedish winter.
There is a functioning radar, Navtex, EPIRB, VHF, Starlink, short wave station and new charts from Sweden through to the Caribbean and back.
She’s ready to cast off and Oihonna is looking for new adventures.
